Hilton Head Island, another Golfing gem on the South Carolina coast is home to dozens of top rated courses. Hilton Head has all of the Southern Beauty and Charm as well as lots of Family Fun. We again averaged the latest ratings from Golf Magazine, USA Today Travel, Golf Advisor, Where2Golf, SC Golf Course Ratings Panel and Golf Week. The results of those averages are as follows:
1. Harbour Town Golf Links at The SeaPines
Jack Nicklaus' first foray into big-time architecture came here, while serving as a co-designer with Pete Dye. The 18th, is one of the "must-play" holes in golf, a 460-yard par 4.
2. Heron Point at The SeaPines
A Pete Dye makeover of a 1966 George Cobb design.
3. Palmetto Dunes Resort
Robert Trent Jones course, the signature hole: par-5 10th green
4. Long Cove Club (private)
This Pete Dye design is a members only residential club
5. May River at Palmetto Bluff
Jack Nicklaus design, Signature holes: 6, 7, 12, 14
6. Secession Golf Club (private)
A Bruce Devlin design, this private club is open to National Membership
7. Hilton Head National
The back 9 holes are designed by Gary Player, Bobby Weed designed the front nine after new road development eliminated the front nine
8. Melrose Resort Golf Course
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this resort course is challenging with the last three holes along the Atlantic Ocean

10. Colleton River Plantation (private)
Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye Designs, this 36 hole private course is members only

Rees Jones design, Signature Hole: 575-yard, par-5 12th
12. Port Royal
Designed by George Cobb, Pete Dye and William Byrd, Port Royal offers three 18 Hole Courses on exotic Plantation grounds
13. Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Jack Nicklaus' associate Bruce Borland designed (who perished with Payne Stewart)
14. Hampton Hall Club (private)
Designed by Pete Dye, just 30 minutes from Hilton Head Island

This Rees Jones design is best known for its sixth hole, a 192-yard par 3
