Wisconsin may be known for cheese and the Green Bay Packers, but it's also part of the national golf scene. With U.S. Open and PGA Championship golf games hosted in the state it's no wonder there are so many top-rated courses here, including some Pete Dye designs!
Irish Course at Whistling Straits Golf Course
Whistling Straits, as Pete Dye will tell you, was a "once in a lifetime thing." He sculpted a 560-acre chunk of flat land on the Wisconsin coastline into rolling hills of Ireland and Scotland. The Irish Course, set just inland, is deceivingly tranquil with its meandering streams and grassy dunes that offer unique challenges.

Steeped in history, this premier parkland golf course was Wisconsin's first destination golf course. Not long after opening, the course became famous for its high caliber and signature "Flower Hole." SentryWorld received a renovation in 2013, boasting upgrades, improvements and changes from the layout, to the greens and the bunkers. Bonus: It's located in the center of the state, making it a short trip from Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and even Chicago.

Blackwolf Run is regarded as one of Pete Dye's crowning achievements and a top-rated public golf course. It has hosted a number of professional championships and is both dramatic in its natural beauty and challenging for the player. GOLF Magazine even said the course "must be considered the nation's finest public-access course of modern times."

Straits Course at Whistling Straits Golf Course
The second course at Whistling Striats, the Straits Course, is a rugged windswept terrain along the coast of Lake Michigan. It's a top rated course, most recently adding #4 in Golf Digest's 2017/2018 America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses to its accolades. This imitation Ballybunion has no rakes and even gives tour pros a run for their money.
